The European Projects Office of Onda City Council was created in 2021 as a strategic tool to improve access to European, national, regional and provincial funding, as well as to drive transformative projects for the municipality.

Its main purpose is to help Onda make the most of the opportunities offered by European funds and the various funding programmes, steering municipal projects towards goals such as sustainability, innovation, digitalisation, territorial cohesion, urban improvement and local economic development.

The creation and consolidation of this office responds to a vision for the city: positioning Onda as an active municipality in Europe, able to take part in networks, calls for proposals and projects that help improve the quality of life of its citizens.

What are European funds?

European funds are financial resources from the European Union (EU) budget, intended to support various projects and programmes, generally in the Member States, with the ultimate aim of contributing to the achievement of EU objectives and policies.

In this sense, the European Union grants funding, through different European programmes and their calls for proposals, to the projects it considers most relevant for promoting elements such as urban, economic, social and regional development, or for addressing challenges such as the environment, poverty, unemployment, education or research.

European programmes can be classified into three categories, depending on their management model:

Directly managed European programmes

EU funding is managed directly by the European Commission. Examples of these programmes are: HORIZON EUROPE, ERASMUS+, LIFE, CREATIVE EUROPE, URBACT.

Shared-management European programmes

EU funding is jointly managed by the European Commission and national authorities. Examples of these programmes are: ERDF, ESF+, EAFRD, EMFAF.

Indirectly managed European programmes

EU funding is managed by partner organisations or other administrations, whether inside or outside the EU.
